More Satellite Nonsense

September 24th, 2006 · 3 Comments

Well, another day of NFL Sunday Ticket. Green Bay finally managed to eke out a win, though they did everything they could to give it away at the end. I actually spent a good chunk of time during the early game messing around with the audio settings on the satellite receiver and my Sony audio receiver. It looks like none of the Sunday Ticket games have five channel sound, which is kind of surprising. I always thought that they flash those “5.1″ banners at the beginning of football broadcasts, so I expected I’d get a surround feed out of the box. No dice, either on the Sunday Ticket channels or on the local broadcast of the game. Movies on HBO sound pretty nice, though. It’s amazing what’ll happen when you read the manual.

As I understand it, the 5.1 is only on the special HD versions of the broadcast, and not all games get that. Today, the backchannel was popping in and out anyway.

That was an exhausting game to watch, though. Frackin’ Green.

Just reading my Sporting News in the usual place and ran across this tidbit which had me wondering if you’ve tried it yet? “The king out-of-market sports TV packages, NFL Sunday Ticket, has a new jewel in its crown. Fantasy football enthusiasts surely will celebrate DirecTV’s Player Tracker, which provides real-time on-screen statistical alerts for players of your choice. You can specify up to nine players to track by going to channel 795 and using your remote. You’ll need to have an interactive DirecTV receiver (models D10, D11, R15, or HR20), but the feature is free with Sunday Ticket subscriptions.”

Yeah, I set it up every week, and it is pretty cool. It’s great for those times when Bex needs the computer and I can’t keep Stattracker on the laptop on the coffee table.
